HKABE2005
It was a project proposal for the Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition 2005 but was not accepted.
I have been unofficially invited as an assessor of the Hong Kong Biennale this year, and of course I did not get it. This was the reason for this work. If I am an assessor, I would like to speak at the opening of the exhibition and present my comments at the exhibition. But in the contest emphasizing the rules of the game, what kinds of relationship between fair and open with the artistic value and taste in the end is? If the judges can replace the curators, can the rules of the exhibition replace the works of art?
Finally, the English version of the entry rules for this year’s Biennale (fortunately unfortunately English became Hong Kong’s “international” tool) was rewritten in reverse order, with the addition of sub-phrases, clauses and punctuation. No one can read, but look , listen to a certain European language, or Latinized Asian or Pacific dialect. It became my “reviewer” speech and comment, as well as my work as an “artist” – the full text of the scene , video performance read out, and wood carved on display.
